Please watch the game tutorial to see exactly how an Outside Escape works.
Of course, there’s no time limit. It would be a shame to miss out on all those sunny terraces and cosy cafes because you’re in a hurry!
No, a booking is not necessary. After you’ve booked your Outside Escape, you’ll receive a link and one or more access codes within minutes. With these, you can start the Outside Escape whenever you want!
Many of our routes have two levels to choose from: basic and challenging. If you have little experience with escape rooms or escape routes, choose the basic variant. If you like a challenge, choose the challenging variant. The routes are the same length, the story is the same, only the difficulty level of the riddles differs.
By the way, you will get one chance to switch levels during the game, should you feel you chose the wrong difficulty.
No, using the hints you can always find the solution to a riddle. You can usually ask for three hints and the last hint always gives you the correct answer. The hints will cost you points, so be careful!
Outside Escapes are suitable for families with children aged 14 and up. But there is plenty to do for younger children, as they can help solve riddles by looking around for hints! In addition, each escape contains 5 or 6 photos of locations to keep an eye out for. So even the smallest participants can participate in a fun photo hunt!
On average, an Outside Escape takes around 2 hours to complete, if you don’t take breaks. The duration partly depends on how quickly you solve the riddles and whether you tend to ask for hints or not. The route is about 2.5 kilometres long and consists of eight to ten locations, each with their own riddle.
By the way, there is no time limit, so feel free to take a break if you spot a nice cafe!
Outside Escapes are self-guided city tours; so there is no guide present on location. You will receive all the necessary information on your mobile phone. You play an Outside Escape in your browser, there is no need to download an app.
And with the optional hints you’ll never get stuck!
An Outside Escape is suitable for 2 to 80 people. If you are with a larger group, we recommend playing with teams of around 5 people. This way, every team member gets a chance to actively participate and it stays fun for everyone. But you are free to form larger teams, of course!
Will you be playing with more than one team? Please order an access code for each team.
To play an Outside Escape, you’ll need the following:
Once your order is completed, you will receive a link and access code that will allow you to start your Outside Escape directly from your mobile phone. There is no need to install an app. You cannot download the Outside Escape for offline use.
Yes, you can. You can share the access code with your teammates, so everyone can participate on their own phones. Each team member can then answer riddles on behalf of the team, or ask for a hint. Just keep communicating with each other to avoid any disagreements!
Yes, you can if you play with multiple teams! In fact, we think an Outside Escape only gets more exciting when teams compete against each other!
Each team gets points based on the answers given and the number of hints used. During the route, you will regularly be shown the scoreboard so you can compare your own score with that of other teams.
No worries! You can use the login link and access code to continue playing on another phone. By the way, there is no time limit, so you can even finish the route on another day if needed!
The start and end points are listed on each route’s details page on this website. To view the details for a route, simply click on a route in the route overview.
No, you don’t need to install anything. The entire Escape is available online and works from your browser.
Yes, in fact, our city escapes are entirely online. So you need a mobile data plan (with coverage for the Netherlands or Belgium) to play an Outside Escape. Most Escapes consume only about 50 MB of data.
We regularly receive messages from enthusiastic participants who have lived in a city for some time and still discovered new things! The riddles make you look around, chances are you will see things you had never noticed before.
Yes it is, an Outside Escapes takes you past both well-known and lesser-known sights of a city. Chances are you will discover hidden places you would never have seen otherwise!
You can play an Outside Escape once with one access code. You can choose from over 50 unique routes throughout the Netherlands and Belgium, so play as many Escapes as you like!
You can, but this will make some riddles more challenging as your surroundings will be less visible. In any case, take a good torch with you, not just the one on your mobile phone.
All Outside Escapes are available in Dutch, with some available in English. The routes in Maastricht, Zutphen and Wesel are also available in German.
You can see which languages are available for each route on the route overview page. You can also filter results for a specific language.
You can see for each Escape on our website in which languages the itinerary is available and also filter by this in the overview of all Escapes.
Most of our routes are fully wheelchair-friendly. For those routes, you will see a wheelchair icon on our website. Unfortunately, certain environments prevent all routes from being fully accessible. You can also filter by accessibility on the overview page for all Escapes.
An Outside Escape requires very little preparation, even for larger groups. Follow these steps to quickly and easily organise your own Outside Escape!
Yes they can! Each team gets points based on the correct answers and the number of hints used. During the Escape, teams will regularly see the scoreboard with each team’s results. And as a coordinator, you can always check the progress and scores of all teams.
You can play an Outside Escape with large groups, up to around 80 people. We recommend playing with a maximum of 5 people in a team. Although you could also play with more than 5 people in a team, this will make it difficult to actively involve everyone in the game.
We also recommend having the teams leave at intervals of a few minutes, so they don’t get in each other’s way. After the start, the teams often disperse naturally, as one team usually solves the riddles faster than the other.
There is no on-site supervision, so you’ll have to arrange the teams yourself. However, we do offer the option of arranging catering options, so feel free to ask for a quote!
You certainly can! Just send us a message with all necessary information (organisation name, billing address, etc.), and we will provide an invoice. We’ll send you the invoice afterwards, and only charge for the access codes used.
This can be done in two ways:
1. Order the access codes directly on our site. You’ll need a separate access code for each team of 5 people. You will receive all necessary information via e-mail, and you can start whenever you want.
2. Ask for an invoice. Send us a message, indicate the number of teams you want to play with and the invoice details (organisation name, invoice address, etc.) we may use. We will send you the invoice afterwards, and only charge for the access codes used.
Yes, the end point of each route will always be near pubs and restaurants. You will also find plenty of options to take a break along the way.
If you play with several teams, you can agree to start and finish in a café or restaurant. That’ll make it a lot more pleasant for the waiting teams! We can make reservations for you, possibly with an option for lunch, dinner or drinks. Feel free to ask for a quote.
The prices are listed with each route. The listed price is for each team (each separate access code); we recommend teams of no more than 5 people.
You can pay using iDEAL, a credit card, PayPal, Bancontact and Klarna. We also accept gift vouchers from DoenKado and Good4Fun.
Companies and organisations can also order by invoice.
Please order the access codes directly on our website. You will need a separate access code for each team of up to five people. After your order is completed, you will receive all the information by e-mail. You can then start whenever you want.
Companies and organisations can also book through an invoice. Just send us a message, indicate how many teams you want to play with and include your invoice details (organisation name, invoice address, etc.). You will receive the invoice after completion of your Outside Escape.
Did you play with fewer teams than expected? No problem, only the access codes that you used will be invoiced.
The voucher document describes how to use it. In brief:
All access codes remain valid for one year after booking. Should you wish to extend this period, just send us an e-mail!
The voucher code can contain both letters and numbers. When entering it, pay attention to the difference between, for example, the letter l and the number 1 and the letter O and the number 0.
If it still doesn’t work, you can always send us a message with the voucher code and we will solve it for you!
